Many country families are not fans of photos, and I know this personally from growing up in one. Working with families to incorporate their lifestyles and personalities into their photos is one of my favourite parts of what I do.
Last spring, the Hicks family were gearing up for a big year. In a regular year, this family is kept pretty busy with their family cattle ranch, Bluestone Stock Farms, and working and competing in rodeos. This year they were adding in two weddings too. Before they got going, though, they needed some family photos for an article highlighting the family business and some of the practices they do on the ranch.
The background was not super fancy — a nearby pasture watering hole. The first thing you think of for photos, right? The Hicks travel through this spot checking cattle regularly, and for their photos, it became a beautiful backdrop for this session. The Saskatchewan skies added in some beautiful colours and lighting across the rolling hills behind them.
We had a great evening incorporating their lifestyle and even their family cattle into both the family photos and Lexi’s graduation photos. They now have some beautiful imagery to treasure for years to come. If it’s been a while since you have had some family moments captured and you’re feeling inspired, scroll down and book your session. We’ll figure it out together.
